Normally my field teams are only 3 to 8 people. We camp in tents, cook our own food, and ski across the landscape. This time my field team consisted of well over one hundred curious people from all over the world. A few photos are here (more will come as I make my way through them). But more importantly, here is a story about the data we collected.
A Tale of Three Bays.
We visited three bays over the course of our travels - three bays with enough time to explore around. These three bays had three different personalities. Brown Bluff is a colder, calmer environment, with smaller, slower flowing glaciers becuse the snowfall is less and it is on the protected side of the peninsula. Cierra Cove has a big glacier flowing into it fed by lots of snowfall, but still cold water which moderates the glacier activity. Paradise Harbour has several glaciers flowing into it and warmer water, which means it was the most active of the bays we visited.
This glacial environment is very different than Alaska. The
